Since its beginnings more than forty years ago, ICMA has made efficient and effective communication with its members a top priority. Whilst the Zurich-based secretariat is responsible for a great deal of the contact that the Association has with its member firms, much of the groundwork takes place at the regional level.

ICMA's regional structure was created in 1974, with a view to establishing an appropriate means of acknowledging the geographic diversity of its global membership. There are currently 12 regions within ICMA, each of which has its own democratically-elected regional committee to represent the interests of the region's members.

ICMA's committee of regional representatives (CRR) was set up to co-ordinate the activities of these committees and to discuss ICMA matters affecting the regions.

The CRR's membership comprises the chairmen of each of the regional committees. Active in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas, the regional committees provide both a focal point for members to put forward their points of view on market issues to ICMA and a platform for the Association to communicate its activities to members.

Considerable time and attention is devoted by members of the regional committees to ensuring that contact with member firms is maintained at a local level. Every quarter, the CRR holds a committee meeting which serves to:

provide a focal point for members to articulate their views on issues to be addressed by ICMA;
 

•

offer a platform for the Association to communicate its activities to the membership; and
 

•

promote an effective exchange of information between the various regions.
