ICMA Belgian Region Summer Barbeque

GMRA-GMSLA Workshop

International Capital Market Association (ICMA) and the International Securities Lending Association (ISLA) will hold the first joint workshop on the Global Master Repurchase Agreement (GMRA) and the Global Master Securities Lending Agreement (GMSLA) on September 13 to 15, 2010. The two separate master agreements are the essential legal underpinnings for repo and securities lending markets respectively. The workshops will include a detailed review of both legal agreements and their application, together with case studies, the operational and basic legal characteristics of the repo and securities lending markets will also be covered.

The first 3-day workshop will be delivered by Richard Comotto, the author of ICMA’s Repo Survey with legal and documentation professionals and representatives from ICMA and ISLA.

MiFID Review events

The review of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) is now well under way. The CESR advice to the Commission on most aspects of  the review was published at the end of July and the publication of the Commission’s consultation, which should  give a clearer indication of what new legislation may be proposed by the Commission, is anticipated in September. There are a number of key issues that the review raises for  ICMA members and the fixed income markets  affecting  pre- and post-trade transparency and liquidity; conduct of business and eligible counterparties.
 

ICMA is running a series of events in the major financial centres of Europe to update members and other interested parties on progress with the review and its likely impact on the business of all capital market participants. The half day conferences will feature expert panels drawn from central banks, regulatory authorities, exchanges and ICMA member firms  with wide ranging discussions on the consequences of the MiFID review for European OTC markets for both cash and derivatives.
